Amanda Branch is an associate at Bereskin & Parr LLP with extensive experience in privacy law, including cybersecurity and data breach. Amanda’s practice focuses on marketing and advertising law, cannabis law, consumer protection, regulatory and privacy law. She also advises on legal issues related to the Internet and digital media, including social media and other online platforms.
Amanda reviews advertising and claim substantiation for clients in a variety of industry sectors from pre-packaged consumer goods to regulated products such as food, medical devices and cosmetics. Amanda has represented clients in competitive trade disputes before Ad Standards and advises clients on promotion and contest design. Amanda provides advice to clients on federal and provincial privacy legislation for the private sector, including Canada’s anti-spam law, and the drafting of consumer facing privacy policies and terms of use.
Prior to starting at the firm, Amanda was an in-house legal counsel for a registered Canadian credit reporting agency. She also completed a Clerkship at the International Criminal Court on a case investigating war crimes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Amanda was a recipient of the WeirFoulds LLP Prize in Administrative Law for achieving the highest grade in the course and the Osgoode Hall Student Honour Award for outstanding contribution to student activities at the law school.
Amanda is a frequent writer and speaker on topics related to privacy and regulatory law. She is a member of the Ontario Bar Association's (OBA) Privacy and Access to Information Law Executive.
