Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

At Bereskin & Parr, we understand that when a workplace prioritizes diversity of thought and not only welcomes authenticity, but wholeheartedly encourages it—amazing things happen. That’s why we make it a priority to embed equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) into our culture.

We foster equity and belonging

Our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee actively promotes an environment that appreciates diversity, embraces inclusion, and fosters equity and belonging. The committee’s members include senior and junior lawyers, human resources, and executive managers. These members span genders, cultures, religions, and many belong to the BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ communities.

Training and awareness result in positive change

Our senior leadership team promotes and advances EDI by supporting the EDI Committee, providing EDI education/training, raising awareness, ensuring HR is trained in human rights legislation and EDI strategies, and measuring/tracking the impact of our activities to ensure EDI efforts are resulting in positive changes.

We are committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace

Our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy codifies practices related to the advancement of equity, diversity and inclusion in our firm. It outlines our commitment to, and strategy for, establishing and maintaining an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace, particularly for those who are under-represented. This includes individuals who are identified under human rights legislation, such as Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, individuals from racialized groups, people of diverse faiths and creeds, people with diverse gender identities or expressions, people with diverse sexual orientations, and women.

Programs and Initiatives

The firm organizes and implements a range of initiatives and programs which are open to all members of the firm. These initiatives not only enhance our workplace culture, but in 2020 they also earned us the title of Chambers’ Outstanding Firm for Furthering Diversity & Inclusion (Canada)—allowing us to set a new standard for EDI in law.

Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in law

Building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace is important—but for these initiatives to truly mean something, they must permeate the entire legal profession. Learn about how we’re sharing our experience and passion for EDI with others.
