Tony Orsi is a partner with Bereskin & Parr LLP. Tony’s practice focuses on patents with an emphasis on electrical, biomedical, software, and cleantech innovations as well as patent drafting, evaluating new technologies, and IP management strategies. Tony drafts and prosecutes patent applications relating to medical devices, medical imaging systems, ultrasound, electronic circuits, electronic devices, communication systems, radar systems, video and signal processing systems, mass spectrometry, fuel cell technology, alternative energy sources, internet systems, business methods, as well as mechanical and cleantech devices.
Tony has worked on patent matters with small, mid and large-sized corporations, universities and tech transfer organizations, as well as individual inventors across Canada. He has also worked with clients to develop in-house IP programs.
As part of an initiative to develop and support the growing start-up communities in Durham Region, Peterborough and Vaughan, Tony has been actively involved with Durham College, the Spark Centre, the Cube Incubator, the Greater Peterborough Innovation Cluster (GPIC) and Vaughan's Economic Development Office. Tony advises clients of these organizations on IP matters to help them protect their innovation from the beginning of the start-up phase. His efforts with some entrepreneurs in Peterborough have been described as "monumentally helpful."
Tony also has several years of industry experience having worked as an Associate ASIC engineer with a major Canadian video processing company. In addition he worked as a Digital Signal Processing Specialist with a pipeline inspection company where he focused on signal and image processing.
While obtaining his honours B.A.Sc. in electrical engineering, Tony studied a wide range of topics including semiconductors, signal processing, electronics, control theory and communication. During his M.A.Sc. in electrical engineering, Tony did research at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and studied signal detection, signal processing, acoustics, auditory evoked potentials, and human auditory physiology. While earning his MBA with distinction, Tony studied a variety of topics including strategy, entrepreneurship, financial services, and negotiations.
