The Federal Government of Canada, in respect to Bill C-45, An Act respecting cannabis and to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Criminal Code and other Acts (“the Cannabis Act”), promised to have a nation-wide law in place legalizing the adult use of cannabis by July 1, 2018, which will operate alongside the currently legal use of cannabis for medical purposes. Since the announcement, the market capitalization of licensed producers in Canada has grown exponentially on the expectation that the North American legal cannabis market will reach an estimated $25 billion by 2021.
