James is a partner and lawyer with Bereskin & Parr LLP and the Head of the Automotive practice group. James is a registered patent agent in Canada and the United States.
James’ practice is focused on patent prosecution, primarily of mechanical innovations. He has worked extensively with clients to draft and file originating patent and design applications, secure rights locally and abroad, and manage global portfolios, including licensing technology in and out. James also has experience representing clients before the Patent Appeal Board at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, filing protests at the Canadian Patent Office, coordinating filing of third party observations against competitors’ European patents, and coordinating initiation of inter parte review procedures against competing U.S. patents.
James is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, and has recently spoken on challenging and defending issued patents.
Prior to joining Bereskin & Parr, James gained extensive experience as a professional engineer while working in the automotive industry for several years.
