Andrea Berenbaum

B.Sc., Ph.D. (Inorg. Chem.), M.Sc.BMC, J.D.

Andrea’s practice focuses on chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology patents, and includes the drafting and prosecution of such patents.

Andrea was a postdoctoral fellow at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany where she undertook research relating to the field of organometallic catalysis. While she was a graduate student in the department of chemistry at the University of Toronto, her research involved interdisciplinary studies in the fields of inorganic, organometallic, materials, and polymer chemistry.

While obtaining her degrees Andrea won several awards and scholarships, most notably a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Postgraduate Scholarship and an Alberta Law Foundation Scholarship.

Andrea has written several articles that have appeared in such publications as the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Advanced Materials, and Organometallics. She has also given talks and presented posters at conferences such as the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition and the American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting.

Prior to being admitted to the Bar, Andrea was both a summer and articling student with the firm.

Career Fair 2016 is organized by the University of Toronto ChemClub and the Chemical Institute of Canada. The purpose of this career fair is to equip chemists, particularly graduate students, with skills and connections required to begin their own individual careers. Speakers from a variety of career backgrounds (academia, private sector, non-profit organization) have been invited to give talks or participate in a panel discussion on relevant topics.

97th Canadian Chemistry Conference Exhibition
Vancouver, BC
June 1 - 5, 2014

Patricia Folkins, Mike Fenwick and Andrea Berenbaum will be attending the 97th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition.

The event will focus on “Chemistry from Sea to Sky”, which will include all disciplines of chemistry from fundamental research to “blue sky” applications, as well as global chemical scientific interactions and collaborations. 

Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) is a national, not-for-profit, professional association that unites chemistry students and professionals who work in industry, academia and government.

Patricia, Mike and Andrea have also organized a Symposium on Wednesday, June 4 to discuss significant intellectual property matters that affect the chemical industry. The Symposium will include industry leaders and legal experts in the field.
