Profile
Dan Bereskin is a founding partner of Bereskin & Parr and is the firm's trade mark practice group leader. Dan is a registered patent and trade mark agent in Canada and the United States. He provides strategic planning and sound business advice relating to all aspects of intellectual property law.
Dan's distinguished career in intellectual property law is marked by consistent recognition as being a global leader in the IP field by publications such as The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers, Managing Intellectual Property, PLC Which lawyer? and Trademark World. Dan had the distinction of being named “the Leading Trade Mark Lawyer in the World” by Who’s Who Legal in both 2006 and 2007, and was recognized as one of the top patent lawyers worldwide, the only Canadian to make the list. In 2007, Dan was nominated by peers and clients as the top trade mark expert in the world and appeared in the Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers – Best of the Best. He was also selected to appear in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of IP law.
Dan is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and is a member of the INTA Panel of Neutrals. Dan has served as Counsel to the INTA, and has been a member of the Board of Directors. In 2004, he received the INTA President's Award for his long-standing service and involvement with the International Trademark Association.
Dan is the intellectual property judge of The Private Court, which provides mediation and arbitration services, and is a mediator/arbitrator with ADR Chambers. He also serves as an Advisor to the American Law Institute on Transnational IP Dispute Jurisdiction, Choice of Law and Judgment issues.
Dan is the author of more than fifty papers and articles on various intellectual property law subjects. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Trademark Reporter and contributes a regular column to Trademark World. He is the author of the chapter on Canada in the book Famous and Well-Known Marks by Frederick Mostert. Dan also contributed the trade marks chapter in IP Disputes, Resolutions and Remedies published by Butterworths.
Dan is a frequent speaker on many IP-related topics at seminars and conferences in Canada, the United States of America, and Europe.
