Profile

Carmela DeLuca is an associate lawyer with Bereskin & Parr and a registered Canadian and U.S. patent agent.

Carmela earned an Honours B.Sc. in biochemistry from the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. in experimental medicine from McGill University. While attending McGill University, Carmela conducted research in the areas of molecular biology, cell signaling and HIV and has co-authored several publications on related topics. Prior to earning a law degree from the University of Toronto, Carmela worked as a post-doctoral fellow in a Toronto-based medical research institute where her research focused on cancer cell biology, gene targeting, fly genetics and genomics.

Carmela was both a summer student and an articling student with Bereskin & Parr before being called to the Bar. Carmela works with the firm’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical practice group on patent matters and is a member of the regulatory, advertising & marketing group advising on regulatory compliance.
